Software Development
Desert Springs Civil Engineering develops open-source tools for infrastructure design, built by engineers who understand the industry’s needs.
Saikei Civil
Our flagship project: native IFC 4.3 infrastructure design software.
Built on Blender and IfcOpenShell, Saikei Civil creates infrastructure designs that are interoperable from day one—not converted after the fact.
Why Native IFC?
Most civil design software exports to IFC as an afterthought. Saikei Civil is different: your design is the IFC model. No translation, no data loss, no broken references.
Current Capabilities
- Horizontal Alignments — PI-based design with arc, spiral, and tangent segments
- Vertical Profiles — PVI-based design with parabolic vertical curves
- Cross-Sections — AASHTO-compliant lane and shoulder templates
- Georeferencing — Full coordinate system support via PyProj (any EPSG code)
- Native IFC 4.3 Export — True infrastructure classes, not workarounds
Project Stats
| 30,000+ lines of production code | 107+ tests passing | GPL v3 licensed |
Built on Open Standards
Saikei Civil leverages proven open-source foundations:
- Blender — 3D modeling and visualization
- IfcOpenShell — IFC reading and writing
- PyProj — Coordinate transformations
- buildingSMART IFC 4.3 — The open standard for infrastructure
